Keys to Housing
November 29, 2016Season of Giving
December 14, 2016You might have noticed a little bit different look on the LTHC website and social media because we have a new name. We are now LTHC Homeless Services. Our Board wanted to make the change to make it clear what we do — which is address homelessness.
Many community members recognize the LTHC part of our name but it has been a while since we have offered “Transitional Housing.” Now, the emphasis is on Housing First — getting people into permanent housing as quickly as possible. We currently have three different locations that offer permanent supportive housing. The Lincoln Center and Singles Program each have 24 units for single adults and the Family Program has 11 apartments for families. Participants in each of the three programs have access to on-site Case Management services to help address their individualized needs while working toward long-term, stable housing. The units are subsidized by housing vouchers from the Lafayette Housing Authority and tenants pay rent based on their income. The program encourages participants to stay for a minimum of one year, however, they can continue to stay with the program as long as they are addressing their Housing Stability Plan.
The Board and Staff felt it was important to include “homeless” in our new name because that is the basis of our mission. We want all community members to know that if a person or family is experiencing homelessness, the come to LTHC Homeless Services FIRST. Our Intake Case Manager will conduct a comprehensive assessment to make sure they are connected to all appropriate resources and if they are homeless, they will have immediate access to our Homeless Services Program (HSP). Right now, the HSP is open seven days per week and offers meals, showers, laundry, and access to telephones and computers for people in our program. The Intake Case Manager also coordinates with the Housing Stabilization Case Managers so that they can start working toward housing.
Our staff appreciate any opportunities to talk with individuals, groups, businesses, churches, and others to answer any questions about our services and, more importantly, to share the need for LTHC services in our community. Please contact myself or Jennifer Seabolt, Director of Development, at jseabolt@lthc.net.
Thank you for your on-going interest in and support of LTHC Homeless Services!
Best,
Jennifer Layton
