When All Systems Work Together: Shanon’s Story
March 27, 2025In a time when homelessness is growing—and in some communities, compassion is shrinking—it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the size of the challenge. But at LTHC Homeless Services, we’re reminded every day that hope is not lost. It lives in the lives of those who have found housing. It lives in the hands of those doing the work. And it lives in the voices of community members who choose to stand with us.
What we do is not always easy, and it’s far from perfect. But it is working.
Each year, LTHC helps more individuals and families move from homelessness to stability through emergency shelter, meals, case management, and permanent housing solutions. And none of this would be possible without the belief and backing of a community that cares. That’s why we’re proud to share the voices of some of our Board Members—leaders from all walks of life—who believe in this mission and support it not just in word, but in action.
“LTHC Homeless Services is a vital organization in Lafayette, Indiana, dedicated to helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness find stability and hope. They provide essential resources such as emergency shelter, meals, case management, and long-term housing solutions, ensuring that those in need receive compassionate support on their journey to self-sufficiency… Your support can make a real difference in transforming lives—consider donating or volunteering today to help LTHC continue their incredible work in our community!”
— Cheryl Butcher
Board Member | Broker, Keller Williams
As a single mother, Cheryl understands what it means to need support—and how many in our community don’t have anyone to turn to. That’s why she stands behind LTHC’s commitment to providing critical resources and compassionate care. Because everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
“Homelessness is everyone’s issue and not just those experiencing it… I support LTHC because I am a former client that has reclaimed my life with housing. I could not have stabilized and learned to manage my severe mental health issues and alcohol abuse without their help getting housing. Housing matters!!!”
— Dawn Baldwin
Board Member | Former Guest with Lived Experience
Dawn’s story is proof that Housing First isn’t just a theory—it’s a lifeline. When someone has a safe, stable home, they can begin to heal. At LTHC, we meet people where they are—offering support without judgment, because human dignity isn’t something you earn. It’s something you deserve.
“I support LTHC due to its Vision, Mission and Values. The mission is to have a community without homelessness… LTHC provides a huge impact for unhoused families through providing support (tools to build stable lives); meals; and helping them secure housing.”
— Tom Gilliom
Board Member | Engineer, Purdue University
People from all professions and backgrounds support LTHC because it’s not just morally right—it’s fiscally responsible. Helping someone find housing reduces pressure on public systems like emergency healthcare, the justice system, and schools. In the long run, Housing First can save money and lives.
“The work of LTHC is as important as ever due to the current economic and government environment we now find ourselves in… LTHC needs the help of the entire community to fulfil this mission. I choose to support LTHC because of the hard work staff do every day to meet clients where they are and help put them on the path to a better tomorrow..”
— Keven L. Jennings
Board Chair | Commercial Banker, Purdue Federal Credit Union
Keven reminds us that the world we’re in today—economic uncertainty and politically divided—makes this work even more challenging. But with community support, it remains possible. Every pledge, every dollar, every act of advocacy is a step toward a stronger Lafayette community.
At LTHC, we believe that people helping people is not just a feel-good phrase—it’s how we build lasting change.
We’re not a faith-based organization, but we believe in values that transcend any label: compassion, accountability, and hope. What people often see on the street isn’t the full story. Behind the scenes, we’re collecting data, conducting audits, and doing the day-in, day-out work of helping people come home.
This campaign isn’t simply about donations—it’s about creating a community where people from all backgrounds come together to support something bigger than themselves. Because blankets are great—but they’re even greater when used in a bed, in a home.
