This past Sunday was the 13th annual Homeward Bound Walk. It was a beautiful day and we had a good turn-out of people who were helping to fight homelessness in our community. The four participating agencies, LTHC Homeless Services, Homestead CS, Family Promise, and Salvation Army, are appreciative of the support of those who came out and raised money.

However, the event has fallen short of its goal. It’s hard to know if that’s because there were too many other events going on or it was just too nice of day to pass up working in your garden, but that shortage will have an impact on services to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis in Tippecanoe County.

That’s the bad news — the good news is that there is still time to help! We are keeping the window open for one more week to get our donation numbers up, up, up. We still have some t-shirts left from the event as well so every donation of $25 or more will reserve one for you.

If you’re not sure why donating is a good idea, just consider that the four agencies who participate in Homeward Bound provide services that range from foreclosure counseling to family overnight shelter to housing case management — the entire gamut of services. There are many people in our community who are living paycheck to paycheck, and one or two rough experiences can turn the cards against them and put them into homelessness.
